Legacy

Smt. Lalgudi Rajalakshmi hails from the shishya parampara of Saint Thyagaraja. Born into the "first family" of violinists, Rajalakshmi is the younger sister of the illustrious Lalgudi Jayaraman. She learnt the art of playing the violin from her father Shri. Lalgudi Gopala Iyer and was later trained in the intricacies of playing the instrument by her legendry brother. From him she acquired the grace and precision of blending laya and sahitya and insights into composing soothing melodies.
She gave her first concert at the age of 10, and there was no looking back - she started giving full-fledged solo concerts which were appreciated by novices and connoisseurs alike. Soon, she was accompanying renowned musicians, both vocalists and instrumentalists. She has performed with her brother and sisters Vid. Srimathi Brahmanandam, also a violinist, and Vid. Padmavathi Anathagopalan, a vainika.
Smt. Rajalakshmi's daughter Dr. Jayanthi Kumaresh is a leading Veena virtuoso and her grandson Abhishek Raghuram, a vibrant and prodigious vocalist.
